The Marc Sarrazin Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund at The Culinary Institute of America The Marc Sarrazin Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 1997 to benefit students enrolled at The Culinary Institute of America who have demonstrated financial need and a passion for the food industry. From the beginning, this fund has been supported by gifts of all sizes from family, friends and organizations such as the “Club Chefs of Connecticut” as a tribute to Marc and his love of the CIA as well as his distinguished career in the food service industry and mentor to young chefs. There have been some 20 scholarship recipients in the past ten years who have benefited from this fund. Two of the most recent recipients are Amanda Eberly ’08 and Julie Cho ’08. Julie is from Los Angeles, California, and used to work in the marketing departments of New Line Cinema and Paramount Pictures. She finally gave into her passion and decided to attend the CIA largely due to the influence of her mother, who has been her role model and greatest supporter. Like other scholarship recipients, Julie says this award allows her to concentrate on her studies with less worry about finances. Amanda is from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and is pursing a degree in baking and pastry. She grew up on a dairy farm and from a young age learned the benefit and importance of hard work. She can remember being in the kitchen ever since she was a little girl. The love of working with her hands while using the freshest home-grown ingredients grew as she got older and propelled her to enroll at the CIA. Amanda is funding her own education and holding down a job to afford her schooling. This scholarship award goes a long way in helping to lighten her load. As an endowed fund, this scholarship exists in perpetuity, which means it will provide vital resources for CIA students and remain a beloved tribute to Marc for generations to come.
